As we realized we were running out of time to get the apple trees totally set up before needing to head back to Atlanta we decided to do some of the work in the house after James was in bed. So for two evenings in a row we pulled in the hardware cloth we had previously cut to size and proceeded to roll them up and secure them with zipties while watching Netflix. After several episodes of Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares (U.K.) we finished assembling the 74 rabbit cages that needed to by put around the apple trees to protect them from mice, voles and rabbits.
Then on Friday (on the day it snowed!) I took the cages out to the apples trees and "mulched" with the pea gravel. We missed getting many pictures on the days of poor weather- the days we were soaking wet, covered in mud and fingers painful with the cold. Thankfully there were only a couple of those days. And really when you are shoveling wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow of rock it is nice to have cooler weather.
By the end of Saturday we had all the trees but two into the ground, all the rabbit cages on the trees and mulch finished. And because it was a cold, and icky day, James got to veg out in front the TV or play trains pretty much the entire day.
