Zoo with Jude
Two blond boys at the aquarium.
Jude is 6 months older than James and James just adores him, wanting to do everything that Jude does.Unfortunately he didn't follow Jude's non-tantrum example and ended up on the floor of the aquarium multiple times refusing to move and fussing/crying that he wanted to go get an animal/lobster from the gift shop.
I had ditched the stroller for the first time at the aquarium and had James just walk. I think he wasn't quite ready for that as he asked to get into baby Rory's stroller a couple of times. Normally he walks around most of the time and only gets in the stroller for snacks or for short breaks so I thought he could do without it. Because we didn't bring the stroller I made James leave all his sea creatures in the car so they wouldn't get lost. I didn't realize that James' attachment to having something...anything!...in his hands at all times is pretty intense. So his empty hands were plaguing him. After the 6th or so floor tantrum I gave in and we picked out a lobster. I felt like I had lost a battle giving into his tantrums, but when he looked up at me with tear filled eyes and said a quiet, fervent and relieved "thank you"I realized that he wasn't gloating in triumph that he had won the battle and acquired one more sea creature, but that he finally had a security toy to grip tightly in his hands for the rest of our time at the aquarium.
