Robert is One Month Old

Yesterday was Robert's One-month birthday.  Since he had his one-month check-up today we decided it was high time to finally give him a proper bath (he had only one sponge bath previously, so he was quite...ripe).  The above picture was on the doctors exam bench post being stripped down and weighed.
He weighed 9lbs. 10oz (a 2lb. 4oz gain since birth) was 21.5 inches long and 15.25 inch head circumference.  The doctor said he looked wonderful.

Robert loved his first bath, a bit of gasping when he was first lowered into the warm water but once in it seems he will follow in James' footsteps and be a water baby too.

James hanging out with Hermie (his hermit crab) while at Robert's appointment.

Bath take one...

Mid-bath while Tim switched out the water since Robert decided warm water was the way to go when needing to poop.

Apparently a warm towel is also very nice to poop in we discovered.

Bath take two.

He smelled ever so much better after this bath!  I'm tempted to give one to him daily but with this dry winter weather  I resist so as not to give him itchy dry skin.  I think he'll really enjoy the baby pool this summer.

Way back last April...

We came down to the farm to do some work on the Christmas trees.  Just before leaving Atlanta we celebrated Easter with Jarrett, Christi, Elsa and Avie at our house (that'll be another post) and just a couple of days later it was discovered that Elsa had the chickenpox.
We also found out that kids are contagious before they even exhibit their first pox- so we thought James might have been exposed.  The days went on and nothing happened.
However, James did seem to get a runny nose, didn't want to eat, and had a slight fever (if I am remembering correctly).  For the first time since leaving the baby stage he fell asleep in my arms in the middle of a meal.  Also, on our drive up to the farm I noticed he had one spot on his right cheek and one spot on one of his hands.  He had in the past gotten hives in response to viruses so I thought all the symptoms were just a cold.
While at the farm we needed to get some organic supplies for the Christmas trees and apple trees from 7 Springs Farm in VA, so James and I set off.  He had a breakfast of oatmeal with blueberries before we hit the road.
We had just purchased the Ipad and I was excited to let him use it on the trip as it was just going to be the two of us for 5+ hours.
About 2 hours in I heard the sound no parent wants to hear in the car- their child vomiting.  I looked back and there was poor James spewing out purple oatmeal EVERYWHERE- it was all over him, all over the carseat, all over the brand new IPad.  I pulled over as soon as I could into a gas station parking lot and went to work getting everything cleaned up.  Thankfully I had a large package of wipes with me, unfortunately I only had a spare zip-up cardigan for James to change into (other than a clean diaper).  Since we hadn't actually made it to our destination yet I knew I'd have to figure out something for him to wear so in the next town I found a Walmart.  I put James in the shopping cart with his cardigan on his top and his coat wrapped around his bottom half.  Into Walmart we went, picked up some pants and on the way out stopped by the aisle with markers & paper (I wanted to get James something to do since I was assuming he had gotten sick due to car sickness using the Ipad) and while in that aisle he spied a rubber Manta Ray and in tears asked me for it.  I try not to buy him toys at the store when he has whined about wanting one, but these were the tears of a little boy feeling under the weather so the Manta Ray came with us.  That Manta Ray was very well loved for many months becoming more and more ragged- then it finally went MIA for several months until being rediscovered in a bag two weeks ago (see below pictures).
The rest of the errand trip was uneventful and we eventually made it back to the farm.  Later that week we went back to Georgia where Avie had contracted Chicken Pox.  Some appointment came up for Christi and I helped out by taking James over with me to their house to watch Avie- thinking that if James got the chicken pox from Avie that would be just fine with me.  I know he was exposed because Avie was eating some puffs and dropped one out of her mouth onto the floor and James quickly scooped the slimed puff up and popped it into his own mouth.  BUT James did not get the chicken pox.  So my conclusion was that he had actually had the chicken pox earlier in the week- just a very mild case.  I am thankful that he didn't have too many pox as I remember scratching mine and I got several scars.  James came through his with virtually no marks.

Sweaters

Didn't get nearly as much knitting done for Robert as I did for James, but I did manage to get two hats and two cardigans knit.

This hat is a version of the pattern I made for both Tim and James...now I just need to get a picture of all three guys in their matching hats.

Just needs buttons and some ends woven in.

I knit James a sweater last Fall with the same blue yarn.
Robert wearing a sweater I knit for James (and with a darling gas smile).

Nap on my unmade bed (it is completely stripped because of the previous night's major spit-up (or rather projectile vomiting due to a very overfull tummy- he had been awake from 3pm to 1:45 am with only catnaps and wanting to nurse non-stop for comfort) which had gone all over him, all over me, all over the bed and then all over the changing table in a second installment while trying to clean up the first installment).

Can't really tell very well from this picture but he is nursing in his dream.

First "bath" (March 3rd)

Just like Tim gave James his first bird bath (prior to the umbilical cord falling off) so did he give Robert his first bird bath.  We turned up the baseboard heater in the bathroom to make it nice and cosy- put out a thick pad of towels on the counter, filled one sink with warm soapy water and the second with clean water and Tim went to work getting over a week's worth of oil, sweat and milk off of Robert.

Not sure who looks sillier :)  Robert's stomach looks so odd when held up under his arms!  Those legs look even skinnier next to that huge stomach.

Post bath.  His hair looked about 3 shades lighter without all the sweat and oil in it.

Our main activity for the first two weeks (not sure that my eyes look any better even now after 3 weeks).

Sunday hill climb

James watching Tim shear a few Christmas trees (we have to get all 4,500 sheared before the middle of May).

Showing off his treasure of a grass (with hermit crab in hand of course).

Unbathed, no makeup, and pale like all new mommas are from slight anemia post-birth- but oh so loving the sunshine and warm weather!

Also enjoying the sunshine- my little monkey.

Tim, Sharon and James decided some exercise after being cooped up sounded superb.  Despite my desire to join them I decided it was just too soon after surgery to go up the hill (the picture doesn't do justice in showing how steep and tall it is).

This one gives a slightly better perspective as you can just see Sharon's red coat.

Robert and I hung out around the house and orchard doing a little bit of work here and there- but in general just enjoying the beautiful day.

Robert's first real day outside

Saturday was BEAUTIFUL so I bundled up Robert (thank you dear gals for the bunting!) and James and headed out to the apple orchard to do some work.

Robert's rooting reflex was highly triggered by the hood rubbing his cheek :)

As I've said before I thought I was having a large baby, but didn't in the end (except for head circumference) so he is somewhere inside that bunting.
