Yesterday was a 40-minute flight and James did great- just fussing a bit while waiting to take off because he was hungry until I nursed him (thankfully the gentleman next to me didn't mind as he was a father and grandfather).

Then we switched to the pacifier during take-off and he contentedly sucked on it until he fell asleep. The pressure changes didn't seem to bother him at all and he stayed asleep until we bumped into our landing.

Today's flight was A LOT longer- over 10 hours. We thought we had seats in the bulkhead row but were actually 5 rows back in the middle 3 seats (the plane was configured at 2-3-2). And since the flight was only 3/4 full we had all 3 to ourselves. It was perfect. We had a built in changing table between us-

and James got to practice sitting up on his own (with pillows padding the armrests on either side should he slump over all the sudden). Despite how the picture looks - he was actually using his muscles to stay upright since the pillows didn't really touch his sides. I think he really enjoyed having his own space to practice sitting or lay down and kick.

A dozen books, 7 toys, and doting nana entertained him while he was awake. He had 4 diaper changes- 1 wet, 3 poopy (thankfully no blowouts!). He slept his normal 30-minutes for his first nap- was awake for 2 hours, then slept for 3 HOURS!!- awake for another 2 and then another 30-minute nap. So out of a 10 hour flight he was awake and pretty much happy for 6 and asleep for the other 4. He only nursed 4 times which was less than I had anticipated thinking I could use nursing as a way to keep him quiet. However, he really only fussed when he was tired or hungry and then only for a couple of minutes until I could get him under the nursing cover or rocked to sleep.

He is a great traveling baby! Now we'll just see how he adjust to the 6-hour time difference.
Yay, James -- that is great! And it looks like you got some sleep too, Kate!
